Best Practices for Branding Online Orientation

For the first time at Nova Southeastern University, the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement was assigned to take on new student orientation. Recognizing the expectation to incorporate a digital experience into their onboarding process and inspired by NSU’s brand, Gerard J. Wheeler, M.A., Assistant Dean of Student Engagement, led the development of NSU’s online orientation. Their goal? To build affinity by showing new students how to “prepare to dominate.”

While domination may sound like a lofty goal, NSU’s brand reflects on the characteristics of the Mako shark – a dominant force of nature. Taglines like “prepare to dominate,” “get the NSU Edge,” and “Fins UP!” set the tone for the NSU brand. The question was how would ADG’s art and design team effectively capture the essence of the brand within the online orientation?

“Our brand has a sleek and cool vibe, with a clean and open style. By blending in bold, visual elements, leaning in on imagery and photography, we are showing students engaged in every aspect of campus – preparing to dominate their NSU experience.”

NSU Achieves an Orientation Edge
